Counterpoint is the product of bringing together music and poetry and a collaboration between myself, Claire Edwardes (percussion), three poets represented by the Red Room (Luka Lesson, Jessica Wilkinson, and Margaret West), and one of Australia’s most prolific music organizations Musica Viva. Writing, composing and rehearsing are usually quite solitary activities and we wanted to explore how the outcome might differ if the approach was a more collaborative one. We all engaged in several workshops, months of email and traditional correspondence via postcards in the mail, and the result was a deeply connected collaboration between all parties, producing a 26 minute long work (rather longer than originally expected!)
